Research Sources

Hey guys!
Here are some other articles I found to help our paper!

1.  China's Takeover and Assimilation of Tibet (Aidan Maconachy)
This article brings us through the Chinese takeover of Tibet and what has been going on since the initiall "takeover".
  • "Following the Tibetan uprising of 1959, roughly 80,000 Tibetans were killed in Central Tibet alone. All told, it is estimated that 1.5 million Tibetans died as a result of Chinese repression that included summary executions without trial and torture."  (Maconachy)
  • "Many Western countries have a history that includes external political influence, military invasion, even temporary occupations - yet in almost every case in the post-WW2 era these nations have maintained their independence and territorial integrity." (Maconachy)
  • This quote refers to why China thinks they have a right to rule Tibet...  "They try to establish a historical basis for their claim by referring back to the Manchu dynasty and by citing relationships between Chinese rulers and Tibetan lamas." (Maconachy)

2. History of  Tibet
I thought that sonce we are researching the Chinese takeover of Tibet, it would be important to know about the history of Tibet.
  • The British invaded Tibet from 1904 through 1911.
  • Communism was one factor that lead to the Chinese invasion of Tibet.
